Help I Need Direction In My Life

Direction

A preacher once gave me the most EXCELLENT advice:

Consider where you came from .. see where you are now .. that will give you a PRETTY GOOD idea where God is leading you in the future :D
Let me start with a portion of one of my favorite sermons I did in the past :D
Called, Appointed, & Anointed
I heard my Mom tell a story about me .. she said when the family went camping, I would immediately go out and gather a group of kids and we would play together ..
I realize now that was part of my calling . . .
Jer 1:4-10 NIV
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart; (Author’s note - before YOU were born, God gave YOU certain gifts and talents)
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."
6 "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."
7 But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.
9 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."
I still have dreams of being at the Methodist church I was raised in. Any time I go there for their rummage sale it is still thick with memories. I remember the old chapel where Mom & brought me home early from a scout camp so I could play a violin solo on a Sunday morning with the choir ..
I realize now that was part of my calling . . .
I love football .. but after 2 seasons, I developed Osgood-Schlatter disease and I was told I couldn’t play anymore .. this drove me into music a whole bunch more ..
I realize now that was part of my calling . . .
I remember being in calculus in high school .. they were teaching me signs and cosigns .. I remember thinking, “I don’t CARE what the derivative of the derivative of the derivative is, “ so I went to my counselor and got out of that class and instead, took an independent study on writing and arranging musical parts for band ..
I realize now that was part of my calling . . .
Called, Appointed, & Anointed

(Show a sunflower seed)
This is a SUNFLOWER . . . does it look like a sunflower? Will it BE a sunflower? Does anyone know how to get it to BE a sunflower?
THIS SUNFLOWER SEED HAS EVERYTHING IN IT ALREADY THAT IT NEEDS TO BECOME A SUNFLOWER!!

YOU WERE BORN WITH EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO FULFILL GOD’S CALLING IN YOUR LIFE . . .

IF I COULD SHOW YOU A HUMAN SEED UNDER A MICROSCOPE .. COULD YOU BELIEVE IT WOULD GROW TO BE GEORGE WASHINGTON? ALBERT EINSTEIN? BILLY GRAHAM?

YOUR PERSONALITY IS EXACTLY WHAT GOD WANTS IT TO BE .. YOU ARE NOT TOO SHORT, TOO TALL, THE WRONG COLOR, THE WRONG SEX, YOU ARE EXACTLY WHAT GOD WANTS YOU TO BE .. THE SOONER YOU SETTLE THAT AND LOVE YOURSELF, YOU CAN SET ABOUT THE BUSINESS OF LOVING GOD AND LOVING YOUR NEIGHBOR …

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Many people want to know what their CALLING is .. what does God want them to DO?

I have at least a partial answer for you today ..

Turn first to:
Rom 11:29 KJV
29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Rom 11:29 AMP
29 For God's gifts and His call are irrevocable. [He never withdraws them when once they are given, and He does not change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call.]

Your GIFT is your calling .. Your GIFT is your calling .. ANYTHING that you do or have done in ALL OF YOUR LIFE to develop your gift has developed your calling .

You were BORN with gifts .. I was born with gifts ..

I was asked YESTERDAY about how I learned to play so many instruments:

My story:
From a VERY early age I was a musician .. from the first kid’s choir at the Methodist church, I was being trained .. developed .. God was seeing to it my CALLING was developed . . . my Mom was a piano teacher at the time and started my with the Shaumn & Thompson books at age 6. In 4th grade I was given the opportunity at North Hill Elementary School to join the band and learn the trumpet … my dad owned a good trumpet and I learned on his .. the SAME YEAR, a STRING ORCHESTRA program was introduced .. you guessed it .. I joined and became the first chair violinist .. my folks bought me a good violin .. I still have it .. I still play it ..

In 5th grade, our choir teacher selected the best students from McGreggor Elementary School & North Hill Elementary .. she called us the McHills and we sang at concerts and nursing homes :D

When I turned 15, my Dad signed my brother Al & I up to audition for choir that was to tour Europe .. we both made it we toured Europe with the choir ..
Turn to a very SPECIAL verse:
Matt 22:14 KJV
14 For many are called (cold), but few are chosen.

I said all that to say this … MY CALLING WAS MY GIFTS – YOUR CALLING IS YOUR GIFTS – MY CALLING WAS DEVELOPED INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE CHURCH .. MOST OF THE TEACHING TODAY IS CENTERED AROUND UNDERSTANDING THAT YOUR CALLING IS YOUR GIFT (OR GIFTS – PLURAL)

CALLED, APPOINTED, ANOINTED --- ONCE GOD HAS SEEN TO IT THAT YOUR CALLING IS DEVELOPED, HE GETS YOU APPOINTED SOMEWHERE ..

My first appointment? On the board of Restoration Ministries, Stan Cool hired me to lead worship for a series of several Men’s Retreats over several years .. My calling complete, the appointment came, then SWEET ANOINTING . . . God really blessed the worship leading with His anointing .. to the point that I was retained to lead worship at a special large service with Internationally known evangelists & authors Charles & Frances Hunter ..

My second appointment: Being hired in Houston Texas by Charles & Frances Hunter My third and final appointment: Heart of the Hills Church
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
My second gift – I talk a lot – the gift of gab
My Mom said to me one day when we were riding in the car, “Have you ever considered the ministry?” “No.” was my instantaneous reply. Mom knew before I knew :D
So, I studied the Bible for many hours over many years until my heart was full and I has something to say . .

Matt 12:33-37 NKJV
33 "Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit.34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.36 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."

David … was trained EARLY in MUSIC/WORSHIP and WARFARE … (the harp, the lion & the bear)

More to the point, I would like to use a musician/priest as my final example:
Asaph …
It is OBVIOUS that Asaph and his brethren were already musicians .. their calling had been developed through the years through various experiences or King David (who was ALSO a musician/singer) would NOT have appointed him.
Please turn to:
1 Chr 15:16-16:43 (KJV)
16 And David spake to the chief of the Levites to appoint their brethren to be the singers with instruments of musick, psalteries and harps and cymbals, sounding, by lifting up the voice with joy.
17 So the Levites appointed Heman the son of Joel; and of his brethren, Asaph the son of Berechiah; and of the sons of Merari their brethren, Ethan the son of Kushaiah;
18 And with them their brethren . . .
19 So the singers, Heman, Asaph, and Ethan, were appointed to sound with cymbals of brass;
20 And Zechariah, and Aziel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Unni, and Eliab, and Maaseiah, and Benaiah, with psalteries (guitar or lute with a skin stretched over it) on Alamoth
5961 `Alamowth (al-aw-moth');
plural of 5959; properly, girls, i.e. the soprano or female voice, perhaps falsetto:
21 And Mattithiah, and Elipheleh, and Mikneiah, and Obededom, and Jeiel, and Azaziah, with harps (meaning to pluck or twang) on the Sheminith (meaning 8 notes - an octave lower) to excel.
22 And Chenaniah, chief of the Levites, was for song: he instructed about the song, because he was skilful.
23 And Berechiah and Elkanah were doorkeepers for the ark.
24 And Shebaniah, and Jehoshaphat, and Nethaneel, and Amasai, and Zechariah, and Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, did blow with the trumpets before the ark of God: and Obededom and Jehiah were doorkeepers for the ark.
25 So David, and the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands, went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of the house of Obededom with joy.
26 And it came to pass, when God helped the Levites that bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, that they offered seven bullocks and seven rams.
27 And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an ephod of linen.
28 Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet (shophar), and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.
29 And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.
CHAPTER 16
1 So they brought the ark of God, and set it in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it: and they offered burnt sacrifices and peace offerings before God.
2 And when David had made an end of offering the burnt offerings and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD.
3 And he dealt to every one of Israel, both man and woman, to every one a loaf of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine.
4 And he appointed certain of the Levites to minister before the ark of the LORD, and to record, and to thank and praise the LORD God of Israel:
5 Asaph the chief, and next to him Zechariah, Jeiel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehiel, and Mattithiah, and Eliab, and Benaiah, and Obededom: and Jeiel with psalteries and with harps; but Asaph made a sound with cymbals;
6 Benaiah also and Jahaziel the priests with trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.
FINALLY, the ANOINTING … my GOAL in LIFE !!!!
2 Chron 5:11-6:1 NAS
11 And when the priests came forth from the holy place (for all the priests who were present had sanctified themselves, without regard to divisions), 12 and all the Levitical singers, Asaph, Heman, Jeduthun, and their sons and kinsmen, clothed in fine linen, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, standing east of the altar, and with them one hundred and twenty priests blowing trumpets 13 in unison when the trumpeters and the singers were to make themselves heard with one voice to praise and to glorify the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice accompanied by trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and when they praised the LORD saying, "He indeed is good for His lovingkindness is everlasting," then the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud, 14 so that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.
6:1 Then Solomon said,
"The LORD has said that He would dwell in the thick cloud.
I was asked yesterday when I felt the call to pastor .. youth pastor .. taking care of the left behind students at C & F .. I had become unsatisfied in my heart working for C & F .. I was praying and asking God for DIRECTION, I even made a few exploratory calls .. then I was praying with a circle of friends, when suddenly I FELT IT .. The Holy Spirit dropped the PASTOR gift in me .. I FELT it .. I said right out loud, “Now I can pastor” ………. THEN I REMEMBERED WHAT THE PREACHER HAD SAID .. looked at where I has been, saw where I was
Last thing .. if you think ministry is just preaching from the pulpit. You are GROSSLY underestimating God AND yourself.
When you were a kid, did you ENJOY taking things apart to see how they work (maybe not quite get it back together again? Did you continue in wood or metal shop? Do you work in engineering or manufacturing today? God has YOU THERE because your foreign boss needs to be loved into the Kingdom of God (As well as your coworkers). That’s ministry . . .
Have you always loved numbers? Did you do puzzles? Do you LOVE to see a balanced spreadsheet, or see money grow? Did you end up in finance? God put you in that UNIQUE spot to shine the light of Jesus and, yes, to help the rest of us manage our money :D That’s ministry . . .
Have you ALWAYS wanted to raise children .. did you constantly care for your dolls? Do you care for children now? You are there because God wants you to teach the children the things of God (that is a FINE ministry) – also, this could apply to mothers too!! That’s ministry . . .
Have you ALWAYS loved to sing or play an instrument? Were you in choirs, bands? Did you learn to play in elementary, Jr. High, High school? You learned for a REASON .. come and see me and I will loan you an instrument and some of my arrangements!! That’s ministry . . .

Have you ALWAYS loved Tonka truck? Did you go 100,000,000 miles on your knees? Do you drive for a living now? God wants you IN those people’s lives around you, because, as Dennis’ dad told me years ago, “You get out there on the road and it seems like you don’t see God.” Well, God has YOU there so others can see God in YOU and COME to Him!!

There are certain household names .. brands that you have in your home .. people that had an idea and worked it until they had great companies .. then they turned around and financed Billy Graham and missionaries around the world and financed churches and kept them going .. That’s ministry . . .

So, if you are looking for direction today . . . LEARN the Word of God as BEST as you can, then .. Consider where you came from .. see where you are now .. that will give you a PRETTY GOOD idea where God is leading you in the future :D
